Out Now Nights: Ep. 12 - Do Androids Dream of Electric Xenomorphs?

Image
Out Now Nights is back with a **spoiler-heavy** bonus episode diving into the world of Prometheus and Alien: Covenant . We talk why Prometheus is better than it was perceived to be by some, and why it faltered where it did. We dive into why Alien: Covenant and how it was a good follow-up for David, but lacked some of the power that it could have delivered upon. We also go into Ridley Scott 's direction and discuss how Prometheus and Alien: Covenant relate to Scott's 1982 classic Blade Runner . So much talk, so little time! Get listening already! Weekly Recap: Pirates Of The Caribbean 5 & More

Image
Yoho Yoho, this Memorial Day weekend sees the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales , which will be a test of Disney 's long-running franchise and Baywatch , which I have no desire to see. Johnny Depp 's Captain Jack Sparrow is once again put to the test and the film actually has some solid merit to offer. Elsewhere, a number of home releases are all out this week and mostly worthwhile. The Dark Universe has been officially announced. Lastly, enjoy the two podcasts we put together for this week. They are good ones. In Theaters Now: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales -  http://whysoblu.com/pirates- caribbean-franchises-end- movie-review/ (A decent entry for the series) Here's The Archive Of Every Review Throughout The Year(s) -  http://www.thecodeiszeek.com /p/review-archive.html

Out Now 284: Alien: Covenant

This week’s Out Now with Aaron and Abe is going to a place where only androids hear you scream. Abe and Aaron are joined by Terence Johnson and Jason Coleman to talk Alien: Covenant , the next chapter in Ridley Scott’s return to the Alien franchise. The group shares their thoughts on the film, which includes some spoiler-y discussion, along with plenty of other banter. Among topics covered, we have a fun round of Know Everybody ( 9:53 ), some Out Now Quickies™ ( 14:01 ), Trailer Talk for Okja ( 25:42 ), the main review ( 33:08 ), Out Now Feedback ( 1:30:02 ) and Games ( 1:44:27 ). We then wrap things up ( 1:52:16 ) and have some bloopers ( 2:08:16 ), following this week’s close out song.  So now, if you’ve got an hour or so to kill… You can also find links to the episode at AudioBoom .  Subscribe via iTunes HERE

Out Now Commentary: Alien 3 (1992)

Image
Time to get re-educated brothas, Out Now with Aaron and Abe has a new commentary track delving into the dark and troubled film that is Alien 3 , from director David Fincher (who does not care for this movie). This month’s commentary track features Aaron and guests Jim Dietz, Brandon Peters and Cullen Bricker talking the theatrical cut of this film, which took the franchise into new and controversial directions. Be prepared for lots of fun facts about the film, stories surrounding the disaster that was Fincher’s personal energy spent on this film, where it stands with the rest of the franchise and the general fun and tangents you expect when it comes to these episodes. And yes, there’s a lot to dig into. Important Note:   This commentary may feature both juvenile uses of language and jokes that may be considered un-PC.  We, of course, are just trying to have a fun time… So now, if you’ve got an hour to kill…

Weekly Recap: Alien Covenant & More!

Image
Alien: Covenant is the big release of the weekend and another attempt for Ridley Scott to please audiences with a look at what came before Alien . As a fan of Prometheus , I thought the results this time around were a little more mixed, but it will be interesting to see the fan reactions. Elsewhere, a couple new releases at home include Vin Diesel' s other action franchise. There's also this month's Criterion announcement, which is worth taking a look at. Lastly, we have an all-new King Arthur  podcast to check out, as it's a lot of fun. Enjoy! Out Now 283: King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword

This week’s Out Now with Aaron and Abe is going medieval on your ears. Abe and Aaron are joined by Zaki Hassan and Markus Robinson to talk King Arthur: Legend of the Sword , the recent box office misfire from director Guy Ritchie . The group shares their thoughts on the film along with plenty of other banter. Among topics covered, we have a fun round of Know Everybody ( 7:04 ), some Out Now Quickies™ ( 13:30 ), Trailer Talk for Blade Runner 2049 ( 21:50 ), the main review ( 30:13 ), Out Now Feedback ( 1:12:54 ) and Games ( 1:31:00 ). Weekly Recap: King Arthur, The Wall & More!

Image
While it may not have much of a chance to unseat Guardians of the Galaxy from the top spot at the box office, Guy Ritchie's King Arthur: Legend of the Sword is one of the major releases of the week and it's actually better than it looks. Also out, The Wall , which is a pretty solid thriller and a nice smaller scale effort from Doug Liman. I even have an early review for Alien: Covenant , so be sure to check that out. Other than that, some other posts, including this week's fun podcast, so enjoy! In Theaters Now: King Arthur: Legend of the Sword -  http://whysoblu.com/king- arthur-sword-movie-review/ (Better than it looks, but still just okay) The Wall -  http://whysoblu.com/the- wall-movie-review/ (A solid genre thriller disguised as a war film) Early Review: Alien: Covenant -  http://whysoblu.com/alien- covenant-the-movie-review/ (Well-made, but a rehash of old ideas) Here's The Archive Of Every Review Throughout The Year(s) -  http://w

This week’s Out Now with Aaron and Abe features an all-new playlist. Abe and Aaron are joined by Bradford Oman and Russell Latham to discuss Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 , our majority pick for the biggest film of the summer. The group goes into just how well this sequel stacks up to the original, let alone the rest of the MCU. Among topics covered, we have a fun round of Know Everybody ( 7:16 ), some Out Now Quickies™ ( 9:16 ), Trailer Talk for The Dark Tower ( 17:30 ) and Thor: Ragnarok ( 26:55 ), the main review ( 33:33 ), Out Now Feedback ( 1:12:34 ) and Games ( 1:27:27 ). Weekly Recap: Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 & More!

Image
Returning to the world (universe) of the MCU, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is the latest entry into this franchise and it is taking theaters by storm this weekend. Sure, there are other films out (which I have plenty of reviews for), but this is one fun trip worth taking. Otherwise, I have plenty to offer in the form of new Blu-ray reviews and final coverage for this year's Newport Beach Film Festival . There's also our epic Summer Gamble podcast episode, so dig into that as well. Enjoy!
