Weekly Recap: Sicario 2, Three Identical Strangers & More!

Image
Sicario: Day of the Soldado is the big new film of the week and an interesting counter to the standard blockbuster flicks already out. If macho performances from Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro aren't your thing though, Three Identical Strangers  is in limited release, while the Mr. Rogers documentary, Won't You Be My Neighbor spreads wider. There are few things to find at home and on streaming as well. I also have new TV coverage up for Preacher . Lastly, we have a couple great podcasts for all to enjoy, so go for it! Out Now Commentary: Jurassic Park (1993)

Image
Hold onto your buts for this Out Now with Aaron and Abe commentary track. Aaron is joined by Brandon Peters and Scott Mendelson for a discussion of a film 65 million years in the making, Jurassic Park . Listen in, as the guys talk all about the dinosaur-focused franchise, why the film has endured over the years, and how this has the elements of the ultimate Steven Spielberg film, even if it’s not his best. There’s also lots of fun to be had in picking apart some aspects and getting into what the sequels tried to accomplish as well. Plenty of fun detail to be found in this entertaining track, so enjoy! Important Note:   This commentary may feature both juvenile uses of language and jokes that may be considered un-PC.  We of course are just trying to have a fun time… So now, if you’ve got an hour to kill…

Brief Thoughts: First Reformed, Won't You Be My Neighbor, Hearts Beat Loud, and Upgrade

Image
I really enjoy putting my reviews together.  I honestly wish I could delve deeper into certain movies, but alas, I get incredibly busy and can sometimes only deal with movies to a briefer extent than I would prefer.  This is why I write these occasional "Brief Thoughts" posts on movies I have seen, as I want to at least offer some of my own perspective on them.  They may not be as polished, but I can at least get my opinions out there. This edition of "Brief Thoughts" features reviews for First Reformed, Won't You Be My Neighbor, Hearts Beat Loud and Upgrade.

Out Now Bonus: The Rider and The Western

Image
This bonus episode of Out Now with Aaron and Abe is all about settling into a new frontier and beyond. This is followed by Out Now Feedback ( 1:38:11 ). There is also all the wrap-up material ( 1:57:40 ), plus a blooper following this week’s closeout song ( 3:12:09 ). Weekly Recap: American Animals, Adrift & More!

Adrift, Upgrade and Action Point are the big releases of the week, coming in between some major Summer players. They may seem slight (and I haven't seen Upgrade or Action Point yet), but there's some joy to be had in getting some smaller films to check out in the theaters. That also includes American Animals , a unique heist film that MoviePass is helping to distribute. I have reviews for some of these, along with the main home release of the week, Annihilation . Also here, my write-up for the series finale of The Americans . Lastly, this week's Solo   podcast, which was a lot of fun to put together. Enjoy!
