Weekly Recap: Jason Bourne, Nerve & More!

Image
Jason Bourne is back and many may be happy to see him. While it offers little that is all that new, I was pleased by getting the basics of a Bourne movie back on the big screen. Also decent is Nerve , which delivers on its silly premise well enough. Less exciting was Batman: The Killing Joke , which is now available digitally and mishandles adapting the source material. Tons of new stuff on Blu-ray/DVD this week, so check out those reviews, along with our huge podcast recapping Comic-Con. Plenty of new trailers to check out as well. Enjoy! In Theaters Now: Jason Bourne -  http://whysoblu.com/jason- bourne-movie-review-2/ (a standard Bourne adventure) Nerve -  http://whysoblu.com/nerve- movie-review/ (A little silly, but it accomplishes what it sets out to do) Batman: The Killing Joke -  http://whysoblu.com/batman- killing-joke-last-laugh-movie- review/ (an animated misfire) Here's The Archive Of Every Review Throughout The Year(s) -  http://www.thec

This week’s episode of Out Now with Aaron and Abe goes beyond the con. The guys have a lot to cover concerning San Diego Comic-Con 2016, including a review of Star Trek Beyond . Plenty of other discussion is had concerning all the trailers, footage and more seen, with some special insight from Ana Bosch as well. Weekly Recap: Star Trek Beyond, Ice Age 5, Lights Out & More

Image
Star Trek Beyond is the big release of the week and fans will boldly go and find out if this entry is worth their time. I'm not a huge Star Trek fan, but am happy to point out Lights Out , which was surprisingly pretty solid. Can't say the same about the latest Ice Age though. Meanwhile, enjoy the other reviews and news I have posted, along with two brand new podcast episodes. Their both a lot of fun. Now to get back to sleeping and preparing for more Comic-Con . Enjoy! In Theaters Now: Star Trek Beyond -  http://whysoblu.com/star-trek-beyond-movie-review/ (I'm just not a Star Trek guy, but it's fine) Ice Age: Collision Course -  http://whysoblu.com/ice-age- 5-movie-review/ (Let's freeze over these characters) Lights Out -  http://whysoblu.com/lights- keeps-horror-costs-low-movie- review/ (A solid, little horror film) Here's The Archive Of Every Review Throughout The Year(s) -  http://www.thecodeiszeek. com/p/review-archive.html

Out Now Commentary: Aliens (1986)

Image
Game over man, Out Now with Aaron and Abe has a new commentary so good it is accompanied by a James Horner score. This month’s commentary track features Aaron and guests Jim Dietz, Brandon Peters and Cullen Bricker talking James Cameron’s Aliens , the sci-fi-horror-action classic. Be prepared for lots of fun facts about the film, stories surrounding the series and the general fun and tangents you expect when it comes to these episodes. And yes, there’s a lot to dig into. Important Note:   This commentary may feature both juvenile uses of language and jokes that may be considered un-PC.  We of course are just trying to have a fun time… So now, if you’ve got an hour to kill…

Weekly Recap: Ghostbusters, The Infiltrator, Cafe Society & More!

Image
Ghostbusters has been the subject of a ridiculous amount of controversy just for existing, but now the movie is finally in theaters for all to see. I have a review here, not to mention reviews for the other, smaller releases this week. One involves undercover gangster Bryan Cranston and the other has Woody Allen doing his regular thing. Also out are a few solid home releases. Feel free to check out what my Mom had to say about The Lobster this week and catch up on my thoughts on the films of Albert Brooks as well. Enjoy! In Theaters Now: Ghostbusters -  http://whysoblu.com/the-ghostbusters-movie-review/ (It's a fun update) The Infiltrator -  http://whysoblu.com/ infiltrator-movie-review/ (Bryan Cranston makes it worth it) Cafe Society -  http://whysoblu.com/cafe- society-movie-review/ (Woody Allen coasting, but it's fine) Best Films Of The Year So Far -  http://www.thecodeiszeek. com/2016/06/top-ten-favorite- films-of-2016-so-far.html Her

How About That Trailer? - La La Land

Image
After breaking plenty of ground with Whiplash , the film that also earned the great J.K. Simmons an Oscar, writer/director Damien Chazelle is back with La La Land , a musical comedy-drama. Judging by just the trailer, the film appears to be the exact opposite of Whiplash  by way of its aesthetic. The movements, the color, the first of many original songs and general feel just seem to capture an entirely different tone.

We then wrap the first part of the episode ( 1:05:50 ) and get into Lobster talk ( 1:11:53 ).  So now, if you’ve got an hour or so to kill… You can also find links to the episode at AudioBoom .  Subscribe via iTunes HERE

More Than A Clown Fish: Ranking The Films Of Albert Brooks

Image
Not that much credit needs to be given to comedian/writer/director/actor Albert Brooks for being more than the voice of Marlin in Finding Nemo/Dory , but the man has made seven feature films and I often find myself not seeing the credit he deserves for his work. All of films written and directed by Brooks have recently been made available to stream on Netflix and I took it upon myself to not just watch them all and introduce them to my girlfriend and my mother, but add some of my own thoughts as well.

Weekly Recap: The Secret Life of Pets & More!

Image
The Secret Life of Pets is the film set to dethrone Finding Dory  from the top of the box office this weekend and that's not a bad thing. The film is enjoyable enough, even if it lacks the discipline of better animated films out there. Regardless, that's the big release this week, along with some smaller releases such as Captain Fantastic (it's quite good) and abysmal comedies like Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates (didn't see it, but doubt I'm missing much). There's also plenty to check out at home this week and a really enjoyable podcast we've put out. Take in some cool news as well. Enjoy! In Theaters Now: The Secret Life of Pets -  http://whysoblu.com/secret- life-pets-movie-review/ (Decent animated comedy) Best Films Of The Year So Far -  http://www.thecodeiszeek. com/2016/06/top-ten-favorite- films-of-2016-so-far.html Here's The Archive Of Every Review Throughout The Year(s) -  http://www.thecodeiszeek. com/p/review-archive.

Out Now with Aaron and Abe Episode 246: The BFG

Image
This week’s episode of Out Now with Aaron and Abe is a real whizzpopper. The guys are joined by Todd Gilchrist to talk The BFG from Steven Spielberg , based on the Roald Dahl novel. We also have our favorite films of the year so far and more to talk about. Among topics covered, we have a fun round of Know Everybody ( 5:40 ), some Out Now Quickies™ ( 11:05 ), Trailer Talk for Sully ( 27:25 ), the main review ( 35:50 ), Out Now Feedback ( 1:08:00 ), our Top 5 films of the year so far ( 1:24:57) , and Games ( 1:32:29 ). We then wrap things up ( 1:41:01 ) and end it all with some bloopers ( 1:50:13 ), following this week’s close out song.  So now, if you’ve got an hour or so to kill… You can also find links to the episode at AudioBoom .  Subscribe via iTunes HERE

Weekly Recap: Tarzan, BFG, The Purge & More!

Image
This week sees a few films hitting theaters. Whether or not they're gonna be big will be up to audiences. I've been down on The Legend of Tarzan since marketing suddenly began and the results were not good either. Steven Spielberg at least manages to deliver the family-friendly joy he is generally capable of with The BFG . Even T he Purge: Election Year  manages to be effective to a point and plenty topical. Of course, you can also settle for the new home releases this week. Be sure to check out my pics for the best of the year as well. Oh and I've got new podcasts and news posts to enjoy. Enjoy it all in, while checking out some fireworks as well.
