Weekly Recap: Irresistible, My Spy & More!

Summer has arrived, June is just about over, and we're getting closer to the reopening of theaters (not an idea I support). And for this week in releases, I have reviews for a couple of less than stellar films, My Spy  and Irresistible . This week's recap also features a list of the recent releases made available to stream, rent, or own digitally. Additionally, there are a couple of solid podcasts we put together for Artemis Fowl  and The King of Staten Island . Finally, there are my various essays lists, and new trailers to dig into as well. Enjoy, stay safe out there, and thanks for reading! This week's bonus  Out Now with Aaron and Abe  is trying to join up with criminal masterminds! Aaron and Abe are joined by David Yeh to discuss Artemis Fowl , the YA adventure based on a popular novel series and directed by Kenneth Branagh . The guys discuss whether or not this is the start of a worthwhile series, how well this works as a standalone feature, and what Branagh brings to the material. That’s a polite way of saying the group had a lot of thoughts on what went wrong, but they needed to be discussed. Following the review, the guys also have some fun with games. Weekly Recap: 7500, Miss Juneteenth, Da 5 Bloods & More!

Today is Juneteenth, which is already a notable day in American history, but certainly takes on a high level of relevance in 2020. As such, in addition to a few throwaway new releases, including 7500  (it's fine) and You Should Have Left  (No review, but it's bad), there's a worthwhile indie drama, Miss Juneteenth , that's worth looking out for. This week's recap also features new reviews for Babyteeth   and Hammer . There's also a list of the recent releases made available to stream, rent, or own digitally. Additionally, I have a couple of Da 5 Bloods   podcasts - one is our show, and the other I was a guest on. Finally, there are my various essays lists, and new trailers to dig into as well. Enjoy, stay safe out there, and thanks for reading! Movie Reviews: (All Reviews Are Linked) . This week's recap features new reviews for both Da 5 Bloods (terrific) and The King of Staten Island  (funny and full of heart). There's also a list of the recent releases made available to stream, rent, or own digitally. Additionally, I've put together several new podcasts, including a serious discussion regarding the Black Lives Matter protests, and a discussion surrounding Black Cinema . Finally, there are my various essays lists, and new trailers to dig into as well. Enjoy, stay safe out there, and thanks for reading! Movie Reviews: (All Reviews Are Linked) Da 5 Bloods  - Spike Lee's brilliant Vietnam story modeled as a modern-day treasure hunt.
