This week adds another film to the list of smaller movies well worth checking out. Don't Breathe is a terrific thriller worth the time of any horror/thriller fan. Jason Statham is also back with Mechanic: Resurrection , which you don't need to race out and see. Plenty of new releases at home this week, including The Nice Guys , which deserves a bigger audience. Also up - a couple new podcasts you should really listen two. New news up as well. Lots of good posts. Enjoy! In Theaters Now: Mechanic: Resurrection -  http://whysoblu.com/ mechanic-resurrection-finds- statham-back-element-movie- review/ (It's not good, but it is an entertaining Jason Statham movie) Don't Breathe -  http://whysoblu.com/dont- breathe-just-watch-movie- review/ (A great home invasion thriller) Kubo and the Two Strings -  http://whysoblu.com/kubo-two -strings-movie-review/ (A fantastic stop-animation film that needs a bigger audience) Hell or High Water -  http://why

Out Now Commentary: Spawn (1997)

Image
This month’s Out Now with Aaron and Abe commentary track takes a walk on the Image side. Aaron is joined by Brandon Peters and Scott Mendelson to talk Spawn , a comic book movie known for a number of things, including the wacky performance by a makeup-covered John Leguizamo, a terrible Martin Sheen performance, wildly bad CGI overload and being the first comic book movie to feature a black lead ( Blankman wasn’t a comic). The guys go into all of that in more in this fact-filled and fun discussion of what went wrong here and other stories that go around it. Important Note:   This commentary may feature both juvenile uses of language and jokes that may be considered un-PC.  We of course are just trying to have a fun time… So now, if you’ve got an hour to kill…

Weekly Recap: Kubo and the Two Strings, War Dogs & More!

Image
Kubo and the Two Strings has been one of my most anticipated films for the year and Laika delivered. Now audiences have the chance to see it and they really should. Also out, Ben-Hur , which I haven't seen yet and War Dogs , which is pretty decent. Even better though - Hell or High Water , which is a terrific neo-western. Also here: I've got some various news items about TV shows and more. We also have a really fun podcast episode to dig into. Enjoy! In Theaters Now: Kubo and the Two Strings -  http://whysoblu.com/kubo- two-strings-movie-review/ (A fantastic stop-animation film) War Dogs -  http://whysoblu.com/lord- war-dogs-movie-review/ (Decent crime-comedy) Ben-Hur -  (Not seen yet, but it's a remake of Ben-Hur...) Hell or High Water -  http://whysoblu.com/hell- high-water-serves-cinematic- justice-movie-review/ (This modern western is terrific) Here's The Archive Of Every Review Throughout The Year(s) -  http://www.thecodeiszee

Weekly Recap: Pete's Dragon, Florence Foster Jenkins & More!

Pete's Dragon is the big new release this week and another chance for Disney to show how good they can be at updating their older films. Didn't take the chance to see Sausage Party , but I can say Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant deliver big in Florence Foster Jenkins . There's also a little film called Anthropoid   out this week as well. Be sure to check out our 250th podcast episode, as there is lots of fun to be had there. You can also catch some of the news posts I put out and more. Enjoy! Weekly Recap: Suicide Squad & More!

Image
Suicide Squad has finally come to theaters and despite the anticipation, the movie has failed spectacularly. As excited as I was to see the film, the results were not at all good, which is quite a shame when it comes to looking at this early stage of the DC Extended Universe. Still, other things happened this week, including the release of The Lobster  on Blu-ray, among other films. I have reviews for all as well as an all new podcast episode for Jason Bourne  and some news posts. Be sure to check out my Preacher  reviews as well, now that the season has ended. Enjoy! In Theaters Now: Suicide Squad -  http://whysoblu.com/messy- guns-files-suicide-squad- movie-review/ (A major disappointment) Here's The Archive Of Every Review Throughout The Year(s) -  http://www.thecodeiszeek.com /p/review-archive.html

We then wrap things up ( 1:10:22 ) and end it all with some bloopers ( 1:19:12 ), following this week’s close out song.  So now, if you’ve got an hour or so to kill… You can also find links to the episode at AudioBoom .  Subscribe via iTunes HERE
