Out Now Bonus – 88th Annual Academy Award PREDICTIONS

Image
It is an exciting time for Out Now with Aaron and Abe , as the 88 th Academy Awards will be airing this Sunday.  Because of this, Aaron and Abe have brought together guests Mark Hobin Mark Johnson and the lovely Ana Bosch for their annual Oscar Predictions show, which is always a lot of fun, as the guys are very competitive, when it comes to picking the potential winners.  The guys also discuss who they believe should win and delve into why things may happen the way they do.  It makes for a lot of interesting conversation, but once again shows that these guys do not joke around come Oscar time…well they do, but in the spirit of the ceremony. Weekly Recap: Eddie The Eagle, Gods Of Egypt & More!

Image
It is Oscar weekend, but there a surprising number of big releases out this week. 'Big' may be overdoing it, but we have an underdog story that is quite good, a mythological action flick that is something else and a cop drama. I didn't get a chance to see Triple 9 as of yet, but John Hilcoat films do have my interest. Meanwhile, we have Eddie the Eagle , which is a fun sports flick and Gods of Egypt which is...better than Stargate , at least. I also added my predictions for the Oscars. Some great home releases as well. And we put out a couple new podcast episodes this week. Enjoy! In Theaters Now: Eddie The Eagle -  http://whysoblu.com/eddie- the-eagle-movie-review/ (A lot of uplifting fun) Gods of Egypt -  http://whysoblu.com/gods-of-egypt-movie-review/ (It's ridiculous, it's silly, but not fun) Here's The Archive Of Every Review Throughout The Year(s) -  http://www.thecodeiszeek. com/p/review-archive.html

88th Annual Academy Awards: Predictions And Other Thoughts

Image
There are only a few days left until the 88th Academy Awards . Some categories have obvious picks, others have safe bets, but a lot of this race is largely up in the air. I do my best to keep track of the awards season and what is likely going to take home the big prize, but I do have my own thoughts as well. Here I have laid out all the categories, with some thoughts on what will be happening come Oscar night. For those looking for predictions, I have highlighted what I think  will win in each category. (There may be possible updates, but I'm pretty set in stone on my choices.) Best motion picture of the year: “The Big Short” “Bridge of Spies” “Brooklyn” “Mad Max: Fury Road” “The Martian” “The Revenant” “Room” “Spotlight” It is weird to complain, but after a year where my top two films were battling it out, seeing my 7th favorite Best Picture nominee (in my top 30 of the year) turn into the likely winner does sting a bit. It won't be a bad Best Pictur

Out Now with Aaron and Abe Episode 230: The Witch

Image
This week’s episode of Out Now with Aaron and Abe casts a spell of a good time. The guys are joined by Todd Gilchrist and Michael Lee to talk The Witch . The guys go over the film and some tangential chatter related to slow burn horror films. Among topics covered, we have a fun round of Know Everybody ( 6:48 ), some Out Now Quickies™ ( 11:40 ), Trailer Talk for the Midnight Special ( 23:29 ), the main review ( 29:45 ), Out Now Feedback ( 1:07:17 ), and Games ( 1:15:30 ). We then wrap things up ( 1:22:45 ) and end it all with some bloopers ( 1:35:02 ), following this week’s close out song.  So now, if you’ve got an hour or so to kill… You can also find links to the episode at AudioBoom .  Subscribe via iTunes HERE

Out Now Commentary: The Crow (1994)

Image
Do not worry about this month’s Out Now with Aaron and Abe commentary, as it is no big empty. No, Aaron is joined by Scott, Brandon, and Jim once again for a look back at The Crow , starring the late Brandon Lee. With director Alex Proyas having a new film on the horizon ( Gods of Egypt ) and Deadpool being all the rage as far as R-rated comic book movies go, what better film to discuss? Lots of info regarding the style, the source material, the actors, the tragedy and more in this fun and fact-filled commentary track. Important Note:   This commentary may feature both juvenile uses of language and jokes that may be considered un-PC.  We of course are just trying to have a fun time… So now, if you’ve got an hour to kill…

Weekly Recap: The Witch, Race & More!

Image
After a year of waiting, The Witch will finally be seen by general audiences this weekend and hopefully they dig it. While not resembling many of the horror films we see today, this film has an identity all its own that serves it well. Not looking as much like its own thing, we also have Race , which tells the story of Jesse Owens in a pretty flat manner. This is similar to the very flat Black Mass , which also hits theaters this week, but is unlike the terrific Steve Jobs , which deserves to be embraced by more. I also have a link to our very fun Deadpool podcast and more. Enjoy! In Theaters Now: The Witch -  http://whysoblu.com/the- witch-movie-review/ (Likely to go down as the best horror film of the year) Race -  http://whysoblu.com/race- movie-review/ (Like watching a Wikipedia article come to live) Here's The Archive Of Every Review Throughout The Year(s) -  http://www.thecodeiszeek. com/p/review-archive.html

We then wrap things up ( 1:12:04 ) and end it all with some bloopers ( 1:20:48 ), following this week’s close out song.  So now, if you’ve got an hour or so to kill… You can also find links to the episode at AudioBoom .  Subscribe via iTunes HERE

Weekly Recap: Deadpool, Zoolander 2, How To Be Single & More!

Image
Deadpool is the big release of the week this week, as it's a superhero movie with all kinds of attitude. It helps that the film is mostly entertaining in delivering on R-rated antics. Not delivering is Zoolander 2 , which has a lot of good talent, but lots of trouble stringing together good jokes. Only Will Ferrell stands as a highlight, but he's not in it nearly enough. How To Be Single is set to be the rom-com of this Valentine's Day weekend, but it sadly only comes together best in moments. On the home front, you can check out Bond's latest adventure or journey to Crimson Peak . We also have a new, fun podcast to listen in on. Enjoy! In Theaters Now: Deadpool -  http://www.thecodeiszeek. com/2016/02/deadpool-is- juvenile-r-rated-break-from. html (Delivers a good amount of offbeat superhero fun) Zoolander 2 -  http://whysoblu.com/ zoolander-2-movie-review/ (Lots of talent, lack of laughs) How To Be Single -  http://whysoblu.com/how-to- be-si

Out Now with Aaron and Abe Episode 228: Hail, Caesar!

Image
This week’s episode of Out Now with Aaron and Abe is a mess, or at least it will do until the mess gets here. The guys are joined by Jimmy O and Maxwell Haddad for a long show involving the Coen Brothers. The guys go over Hail, Caesar! , followed by a focus on the career of the directing duo. Among topics covered, we have a fun round of Know Everybody ( 5:54 ), some Out Now Quickies™ ( 8:56 ), the main review ( 23:30 ), the director spotlight ( 46:25 ), and Out Now Feedback ( 2:04:44 ). We then wrap things up ( 2:13:08 ) and end it all with some bloopers ( 2:24:31 ), following this week’s close out song.  So now, if you’ve got an hour or so to kill… You can also find links to the episode at AudioBoom .  Subscribe via iTunes HERE

‘Deadpool’ Is A Juvenile R-Rated Break From Serious PG-13 Business (Movie Review)

Image
Deadpool : 3 out of 5 Having risen up from the ashes created by X-Men Origins: Wolverine , Deadpool has been given a second chance to make an impression on the big screen and this time the fans are backing him. Yes, while the world deals with the various universes being created by Marvel Studios and Warner Bros./DC , Fox has been plenty confident in this break from their X-Men films to deliver a fourth wall-breaking smart ass who supposedly changes what superheroes are all about. That is not quite the case, as Deadpool is about as straightforward as it gets (with added blood and swearing), but there is fun to be had.

Weekly Recap: Hail, Caesar! & More!

Image
While Kung Fu Panda 3   was the one bright spot in a sea of widely released January duds, February kicks things off with another zany farce from the Coen Brothers. Hail, Caesar! is a hilarious tribute to the Golden Age of Hollywood, with an all-star cast to help ensure most will find at least something to like in it. This week also sees the release of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies , which I just could not care less about, along with another Nicholas Sparks drama. For those at home, be sure to catch Spielberg's latest, if you haven't already. Also, this week's podcast is packed with plenty of fun, so find that link and others below. Enjoy!
