Deepwater Horizon and Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children are the two big releases this week. Tim Burton and Mark Wahlberg both have some tricks up their sleeves for audiences and I found both to be quite effective. Queen of Katwe is expanding to a lot more theaters as well and deserves a big crowd. Lots of news, as well as a couple podcasts that you should be sure to check out. Enjoy it all here! In Theaters Now: Deepwater Horizon -  http://whysoblu.com/ deepwater-horizon-delivers- fiery-intensity-sea-movie- review/ (Solid disaster drama) Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children -  http://whysoblu.com/tim- burton-seems-home-peculiar- children-movie-review/ (Very Tim Burton-y) Queen of Katwe -  http://whysoblu.com/queen-ka twe-movie-review/ (A solid Disney sports drama about chess!) Out Now Bonus: Horror Genre Special 1 – Slasher Films

Image
Time for another round of horror fun with Out Now with Aaron and Abe . After previous years dealing with the various decades of horror and examining the works of several key horror filmmakers, this year Out Now wants to look at the various sub-genres within horror. Aaron and Abe are joined by Jimmy O and Brandon Peters for this first horror special, where the guys talk all about slasher films . The first part of the discussion is finding how to best define the genre. This is followed by several film picks from each participant, which they have chosen to put a spotlight on. There is plenty of knowledge and fun to take in here, so enjoy! So now, if you’ve got an hour to kill… You can also find links to the episode at AudioBoom .  Subscribe via iTunes HERE

We then wrap things up ( 1:08:40 ) and end it all with some bloopers ( 1:25:15 ), following this week’s close out song.  So now, if you’ve got an hour or so to kill… You can also find links to the episode at AudioBoom .  Subscribe via iTunes HERE

How About That Trailer? - Fences

Image
After getting some of the fun out his system by riding a horse in another forgettable action flick, Denzel Washington can now be seen in fine form in this first trailer for Fences . Washington directs this August Wilson Pulitzer Prize-winning play-turned-film, which has been adapted for the screen by Wilson as well. It is frankly what I want to see from Washington, as he's remained an effective screen presence, but could really use a film like this to show us how he can challenge himself as an actor and filmmaker.

Weekly Recap: Magnificent Seven, Storks, Queen of Katwe & More!

Plenty of new movies on Blu-ray/DVD, as well as lots of news stories I put together. Enjoy. How About That Trailer? - Passengers

Image
Well it seems like this took some time to finally happen, but the first trailer for Passengers   is here. This is the upcoming science fiction/romantic drama starring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt . The film is directed by Morten Tyldum , who is coming off of his Oscar-nominated biopic, The Imitation Game .

Out Now Commentary: Fallen (1998)

Image
This month’s Out Now with Aaron and Abe commentary track was a challenge to put together, due to various recording mishaps, but it’s here, as not even Azazel can hold us back. Aaron is joined by Scott Mendelson and Brandon Peters once again to talk the underrated 1998 supernatural cop drama Fallen , starring Denzel Washington . Listen in, as the guys do their best to fill this track with lots of info about films of this time, Washington’s career and lots of other silly banter. The audio may be a little choppy, but we did the best to make this track as engaging as possible. Important Note:   This commentary may feature both juvenile uses of language and jokes that may be considered un-PC.  We of course are just trying to have a fun time… So now, if you’ve got an hour to kill…
