Out Now with Aaron and Abe – Episode 8: THOR

 

And here we are again.  Out Now with Aaron and Abe, episode 8 - Thor.  In this episode, Abe and I discuss the Mighty Thor's debut blockbuster film - Thor (click for the written review).  Of course, before getting to Thor, Abe and I bring out our regular discussion of some select movie trailers (Cowboys & Aliens and The Green Lantern).  That is then followed by a quite lengthy discussion of Thor.  As always we then delve into some fun and games, as Abe and I have some fun explaining and predicting box office totals, as well as have more fun with the William Fitchner Game and another round of "Cast This".  I had a lot of fun with Abe during this episode, so despite our skills at this still developing and the audio quality being merely okay, I am grateful for whoever it is that keeps coming back for more.  Additionally, you can e-mail us and shower us with hate mail or actual comments that we would love to hear at: outnowpodcast@gmail.com. 

Two special things to take note of:

- Following the outro music of the podcast, listen a little more if you want to hear some bonus, slightly spoilery, Thor talk.

    One thing I'd like to throw at there, upon initial listening, is that I dabble in Audio Editing (I did take a class).

    Let me know if you are interested in giving my skills a test run; maybe smooth out the quality a bit.

    As in you can take the mp3 of a recorded phone call and make it sound better? Because there already is quite a bit of editing going on.

    That was the implication, yes.

    If you are interested, feel free to email a sound file to play with.

    If you still have any raw recordings, unedited, that would also be preferable.

21 Jump Street :  4 out of 5 Jenko:   Always one strap it.   Always So anyone that was hoping for the dark and gritty reboot of the 80s undercover cop drama 21 Jump Street in the same way that Michael Mann rebooted Miami Vice , they will be disappointed with what has actually been made.  Instead, this is a delightfully funny and wild take on that material, which is like a crack-addicted blend between John Hughes and Lethal Weapon .  This new take on 21 Jump Street maintains the same basic premise of assigning cops to undercover roles as high school kids, but ups the raunchy factor significantly.  The film is at times crude, but also a lot cleverer and more self aware than one would expect.  It is entertaining in a wonderfully over-the-top sort of way, with Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum making for a great comedic team.

‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’ Tears Through The Floors And Hits Rock Bottom

Texas Chainsaw 3D :   1 out of 5 Nikki:   Do you know anything about this place? Heather:   Just the address. Starting this year out on the right foot, the latest entry in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise manages to put Hollywood in a position to go nowhere but up.   I do enjoy my share of horror films and was happy to enter into this film with an open mind, but man is it terrible.   Given my love for the original film and my general fondness for the second, the idea of a film billed as a direct continuation of the original entry written and directed by Tobe Hooper was slightly intriguing.   Even in a post- Cabin in the Woods world, where horror movies can be boiled down to words on a dry erase board, I went for it.   The results were not good.   Texas Chainsaw 3D is not just a bad film, it is an idiotic one that literally cannot do basic math.   Read on to find out why.

The ‘Tides’ For These ‘Pirates’ Are Not ‘Stranger’, They’re Duller

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides = 2 ½ out of 5 Jack Sparrow : Captain, I wish to report a mutiny. I can name fingers and point names. Blackbeard: Perfect. The last thing you want in a summer blockbuster is to be bored.  Unfortunately, the fun that has previously been a driving point in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise seems to have just about run out.  I suppose giving an opinion on the franchise seems appropriate, given that this is supposedly a new start for the series.  As far as I am concerned, the previous ‘ Pirates’ films have not steered me wrong.  They all share the same problems (overlong and overly plotted), but there is a sense of fun and imagination that I have greatly admired throughout.  This latest installment of the series manages to just feel long, without the benefit of being much fun.  It is unfortunate, as I admire what Johnny Depp brings to the series, along with the inclusion of some old and new characters, but ‘ On Stranger Tides’ really su
