Out Now Special: Horrible Bosses and 2011's R-rated Comedies

 
This week’s episode of Out Now with Aaron and Abe is jam packed with both guests and movies.  Rather than just do a regular episode about the big new release of the week, Horrible Bosses, Aaron and Abe have decided to discuss all of the R-rated comedies that have come out so far this year, along with some of the upcoming ones as well.  This episode does start off with a review of Horrible Bosses, which is followed by a lengthy segment that recaps all of the other R-rated comedies of 2011.  To help Aaron and Abe, three guests join the duo in their discussion.  These guests include past favorites (right?) ‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’ Tears Through The Floors And Hits Rock Bottom

Texas Chainsaw 3D :   1 out of 5 Nikki:   Do you know anything about this place? Heather:   Just the address. Starting this year out on the right foot, the latest entry in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise manages to put Hollywood in a position to go nowhere but up.   I do enjoy my share of horror films and was happy to enter into this film with an open mind, but man is it terrible.   Given my love for the original film and my general fondness for the second, the idea of a film billed as a direct continuation of the original entry written and directed by Tobe Hooper was slightly intriguing.   Even in a post- Cabin in the Woods world, where horror movies can be boiled down to words on a dry erase board, I went for it.   The results were not good.   Texas Chainsaw 3D is not just a bad film, it is an idiotic one that literally cannot do basic math.   Read on to find out why.

The ‘Tides’ For These ‘Pirates’ Are Not ‘Stranger’, They’re Duller

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides = 2 ½ out of 5 Jack Sparrow : Captain, I wish to report a mutiny. I can name fingers and point names. Blackbeard: Perfect. The last thing you want in a summer blockbuster is to be bored.  Unfortunately, the fun that has previously been a driving point in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise seems to have just about run out.  I suppose giving an opinion on the franchise seems appropriate, given that this is supposedly a new start for the series.  As far as I am concerned, the previous ‘ Pirates’ films have not steered me wrong.  They all share the same problems (overlong and overly plotted), but there is a sense of fun and imagination that I have greatly admired throughout.  This latest installment of the series manages to just feel long, without the benefit of being much fun.  It is unfortunate, as I admire what Johnny Depp brings to the series, along with the inclusion of some old and new characters, but ‘ On Stranger Tides’ really su
