Out Now with Aaron and Abe Episode 1: Battle: Los Angeles

 

UPDATE:  We now have a title and better audio source.

So this is a rough recording of a potential podcast in the making involving my good friend Abe and I, discussing movies.  This particular recording features Battle: Los Angeles as the main feature review, but there are also mentions of other movie related topics such as the new Super 8 trailer, the merits of films similar to our main feature, and other rough sketches of what could become recurring segments of the podcast.  If anyone happens to listen to this, I hope they enjoy it.  I also hope that future iterations of this yet untitled podcast will be more organized, sound better, and become available in a more convenient way. Again, enjoy.

21 Jump Street :  4 out of 5 Jenko:   Always one strap it.   Always So anyone that was hoping for the dark and gritty reboot of the 80s undercover cop drama 21 Jump Street in the same way that Michael Mann rebooted Miami Vice , they will be disappointed with what has actually been made.  Instead, this is a delightfully funny and wild take on that material, which is like a crack-addicted blend between John Hughes and Lethal Weapon .  This new take on 21 Jump Street maintains the same basic premise of assigning cops to undercover roles as high school kids, but ups the raunchy factor significantly.  The film is at times crude, but also a lot cleverer and more self aware than one would expect.  It is entertaining in a wonderfully over-the-top sort of way, with Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum making for a great comedic team.

‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’ Tears Through The Floors And Hits Rock Bottom

Texas Chainsaw 3D :   1 out of 5 Nikki:   Do you know anything about this place? Heather:   Just the address. Starting this year out on the right foot, the latest entry in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise manages to put Hollywood in a position to go nowhere but up.   I do enjoy my share of horror films and was happy to enter into this film with an open mind, but man is it terrible.   Given my love for the original film and my general fondness for the second, the idea of a film billed as a direct continuation of the original entry written and directed by Tobe Hooper was slightly intriguing.   Even in a post- Cabin in the Woods world, where horror movies can be boiled down to words on a dry erase board, I went for it.   The results were not good.   Texas Chainsaw 3D is not just a bad film, it is an idiotic one that literally cannot do basic math.   Read on to find out why.

Directed by Sam Raimi (the Spider-Man trilogy) and starring Bruce "Don't Call Me Ash" Campbell, the series has become a cult favorite for many, due to how entertaining it is. The ‘Tides’ For These ‘Pirates’ Are Not ‘Stranger’, They’re Duller

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides = 2 ½ out of 5 Jack Sparrow : Captain, I wish to report a mutiny. I can name fingers and point names. Blackbeard: Perfect. The last thing you want in a summer blockbuster is to be bored.  Unfortunately, the fun that has previously been a driving point in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise seems to have just about run out.  I suppose giving an opinion on the franchise seems appropriate, given that this is supposedly a new start for the series.  As far as I am concerned, the previous ‘ Pirates’ films have not steered me wrong.  They all share the same problems (overlong and overly plotted), but there is a sense of fun and imagination that I have greatly admired throughout.  This latest installment of the series manages to just feel long, without the benefit of being much fun.  It is unfortunate, as I admire what Johnny Depp brings to the series, along with the inclusion of some old and new characters, but ‘ On Stranger Tides’ really su
