Weekly Recap: Baby Driver, Despicable Me 3, Spider-Man, Apes & More!

Image
Baby Driver is the film I am rooting for, as it's a new Edgar Wright film and one of the few original flicks to be heading into theaters this summer. It's a blast and worth catching on the big screen. Also out there this week is Despicable Me 3 , providing audiences with more minion fun if that's what they're looking for. There's also an expansion of some really solid indies and guess what - I have some early reviews for Spider-Man: Homecoming and War for the Planet of the Apes . But that's not all. This week's packed recap also has some reviews for home releases, new reviews for Preacher   and a couple of great podcasts. Take it all in and enjoy! In Theaters Now: Baby Driver -  http://whysoblu.com/the- baby-driver-movie-review/ (A car chase musical that's a ton of fun) Despicable Me 3 -  http://whysoblu.com/ despicable-3-finds-right-zany- balance-movie-review/ (I actually liked this one) War for the Planet of the Apes -  http

Out Now 289: Transformers: The Last Knight

Image
This week’s Out Now with Aaron and Abe gets way more than meets the eye. Aaron and Abe are joined by Alan Aguilera and Jordan Grout to discuss Transformers: The Last Knight . This is the third time this same group has gotten together to talk a Michael Bay   Transformers movie on this podcast, but it also may be the last straw, so it’s a good thing plenty of movie talk was had. Among topics covered, we have a fun round of Know Everybody ( 12:50 ), some Out Now Quickies™ ( 16:20 ), Trailer Talk for Logan Lucky ( 26:15 ), the main review ( 30:25 ), Out Now Feedback ( 1:28:38 ) and Games ( 1:50:30 ). We then wrap things up ( 1:56:51 ) and have some bloopers ( 2:06:10 ), following this week’s close out song.  So now, if you’ve got an hour or so to kill… You can also find links to the episode at AudioBoom .  Subscribe via iTunes HERE

Out Now Commentary: Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991)

Image
Aaron and Abe said they’d be back. The guys had planned for a different movie commentary for this month, but no problem, as they instead decided to talk all about Terminator 2: Judgement Day instead. This is the epic sequel from writer/director James Cameron has plenty of things to go over, including the star power of Arnold Schwarzenegger , the great performances by the supporting cast, all the action and so much more. It’s a lot of praise being given, but Aaron and guest Brandon Peters (and eventually Abe) have plenty to say about everything going on in this film and more. As usual, this is info-heavy, but full of fun tangents as well. So get ready and listen to us if you want to live. Important Note:   This commentary may feature both juvenile uses of language and jokes that may be considered un-PC.  We of course are just trying to have a fun time… So now, if you’ve got an hour to kill…

Weekly Recap: Transformers 5, The Big Sick, The Beguiled & More!

Image
Transformers: The Last Knight storms its way into theaters this weekend, whether you like it or not. Reviews are once again terrible and it looks possible that audiences may be wising up too. Fortunately, The Big Sick and The Beguiled start their run in theaters and they are both really good. Also, a new home release, a Criterion announcement, a Batman & Robin essay and a really fun podcast. Enjoy it all!  In Theaters Now: Transformers: The Last Knight -  http://whysoblu.com/last- knight-bludgeons-audiences- transformers-action-movie- review/ (Just the worst) The Big Sick -  http://whysoblu.com/big- sick-movie-review/ (Seek this great comedy-drama out and see it) The Beguiled -  http://whysoblu.com/ beguiled-movie-review/ (Sofia Coppola delivers a well made period thriller) Here's The Archive Of Every Review Throughout The Year(s) -  http://www.thecodeiszeek.com /p/review-archive.html

Out Now 288: Cars 3

Image
This week’s Out Now with Aaron and Abe goes for a ride on the highway. Aaron and Abe are joined by David Yeh to talk Pixar’s Cars 3 . The group goes all into the third entry in the middling animated franchise and whether or not this one was the most worthwhile or just another animated film drifting on fumes.  Among topics covered, we have a fun round of Know Everybody ( 9:17 ), some Out Now Quickies™ ( 16:06 ), Trailer Talk for Black Panther ( 30:15 ), the main review ( 35:11 ), Out Now Feedback ( 1:17:50 ) and Games ( 1:34:22 ). We then wrap things up ( 1:43:57 ) and have some bloopers ( 1:52:03 ), following this week’s close out song.   So now, if you’ve got an hour or so to kill… You can also find links to the episode at AudioBoom .  Subscribe via iTunes HERE

‘Batman & Robin’ Added Online Trolls To The Rogue’s Gallery

Image
Today (June 20, 2017) is the 20th anniversary of Batman & Robin , the infamous Batman film that changed a lot of things for its stars, director and the state of superhero movies. There’s plenty to be written about (and that has been written about) concerning what exactly happened, why it happened that way and what happened next. Suffice it to say director Joel Schumacher and star George Clooney have not stopped apologizing since the film arrived in theaters and continue to do so to this day (which is apparently still news to people). Among the many things to get into concerning a film best known for Arnold Schwarzenegger ’s ice puns and the nipples on the bat suit though, is the adverse effect it had on the burgeoning internet community at that time.

Weekly Recap: Cars 3, 47 Meters Down & More!

Image
Heading into this weekend brings us an animated sequel and a killer shark movie. Cars 3 and 47 Meters Down are among the few releases this week, but the only two I managed to see. Both are entertaining enough in their own ways, though there are much better killer shark movies out there. Additionally, I have a couple reviews for this week's home releases and two great podcasts going over last week's films. Lots to enjoy, including a Black Panther trailer that I can't stop watching. Get it all right here. In Theaters Now: Cars 3 -  http://whysoblu.com/cars-3-c ruises-lightning-movie-review/ (The best of the series, for whatever it's worth) 47 Meters Down -  http://whysoblu.com/47- meters-movie-review/ (It's an okay killer shark movie) Here's The Archive Of Every Review Throughout The Year(s) -  http://www.thecodeiszeek.com /p/review-archive.html

Out Now Nights 13: Just What Does Come At Night, Exactly?

Image
Time for an all new episode of Out Now Nights ( Nights ). This is the time where Aaron and Abe start the recorder late in the evening and get into some topics they didn’t have time to expand upon in the regular show. The film It Comes At Night is a perfect example, as it was met with lots of polarizing reactions in the weekend it opened and deserves to be talked about. Prof. Mike Dillon was happy to join in and the group goes into lots of detail about what the film is, ideas of how certain things play out and other interesting topics surrounding the film and its director, Trey Edward Shults . This conversation has its topic, but it’s also a little looser, so enjoy how it all plays out. Note: There are major spoilers for the film, if anyone is concerned about this. Out Now 287: The Mummy

Image
This week’s Out Now with Aaron and Abe unleashes a creature from her prison for a debate. Aaron and Abe are joined by Peter Paras and Yancy Berns to discuss The Mummy , the start of Universal’s Dark Universe . The group has plenty to say about this Tom Cruise horror/action flick, along with plenty more about plenty of other movie-related things. Among topics covered, we have a fun round of Know Everybody ( 12:15 ), some Out Now Quickies™ ( 19:56 ), Trailer Talk for American Made ( 32:50 ), the main review ( 37:15 ), Out Now Feedback ( 1:23:31 ) and Games ( 1:39:26 ). We then wrap things up ( 1:48:50 ) and have some bloopers ( 1:58:36 ), following this week’s close out song.  So now, if you’ve got an hour or so to kill… You can also find links to the episode at AudioBoom .  Subscribe via iTunes HERE

How About That Trailer? - Black Panther

Image
By the time Black Panther  arrives in theaters next year, we'll be 18 movies into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and while that may be a lot to keep track of and continue to feel enthusiasm for, it may be this film (and the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok) that have had me the most excited. This may just be a teaser, but knowing Ryan Coogler (and frequent collaborator Michael B. Jordan ) is behind this film already made me happy. Adding in the footage coming out of this brief preview of what's the come, I feel like I have nothing to worry about.

Weekly Recap: The Mummy, The Hero, It Comes At Night & More!

Image
This weekend's big release is a Cruise Mummy. The big attempt by Universal to launch it's Dark Univers e with The Mummy was a novel concept, but unfortunately something of a miss. Elsewhere, It Comes At Night  actually delivers the kind of thrills I like. There's even the comfort of Sam Elliot's voice that can be found in The Hero , opening in limited release this week. Also be sure to dig into my reviews for the various home releases, as there were several. And lastly, check out our great Wonder Woman   podcast as well. Enjoy! In Theaters Now: The Mummy -  http://whysoblu.com/cruise-m ummy-threatens-dark-universe-m ovie-review/ (Disappointing, since Cruise usually delivers) It Comes At Night -  http://whysoblu.com/comes- night-brings-dread-movie- review/ (Great sense of dread in this deliberate thriller) The Hero -  http://whysoblu.com/nbff-201 7-review-hero/ (Sam Elliot gets to lead a film!) Out Now 286: Wonder Woman

Image
This week’s Out Now with Aaron and Abe is here to tell you the truth about a new superhero movie, lasso or no lasso. Aaron and Abe are joined by Scott Mendelson and Todd Gilchrist to discuss Wonder Woman , the latest attempt by the DCEU to make a working universe . The group has plenty to say about the biggest female superhero movie ever, including thoughts on the film, its impact and more.  Among topics covered, we have a fun round of Know Everybody ( 8:37 ), some Out Now Quickies™ ( 15:50 ), Trailer Talk for Murder on the Orient Express ( 31:10 ), the main review ( 41:55 ), Out Now Feedback ( 1:36:09 ) and Games ( 1:56:31 ). We then wrap things up ( 2:01:30 ) and have some bloopers ( 2:10:30 ), following this week’s close out song.  So now, if you’ve got an hour or so to kill… You can also find links to the episode at AudioBoom .  Subscribe via iTunes HERE

Weekly Recap: Wonder Woman, Captain Underpants & More!

Image
Wonder Woman is the big film release of the week, a movie 75+ years in the making. Fortunately, the DCEU actually has a strong success on their hands this time out. And that's not the only superhero movie opening this week. Captain Underpants also makes his big screen debut and it is also actually pretty fun. So good stuff all around on that front. Meanwhile, you can check out some new home releases, including a new Criterion Collection review. There's also our podcast, which has a couple more new episodes that are plenty of fun to listen to. Enjoy! In Theaters Now: Wonder Woman -  http://whysoblu.com/the-wond er-woman-movie-review/ (WB and DC got this one right) Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie -  http://whysoblu.com/captain- underpants-movie-review/ (Another good (and goofy) superhero movie) Here's The Archive Of Every Review Throughout The Year(s) -  http://www.thecodeiszeek.com /p/review-archive.html
