Weekly Recap: Inferno and More!

Image
Inferno finds Tom Hanks and Ron Howard returning to the Robert Langdon franchise to produce yet another silly movie. It's not "good" but it's not boring either. It's also the one big release this week, so see if there's anything else out there to look into in theaters. Lots of new home releases this week as well, including my first Criterion Blu-ray review. Be sure to check out our fun podcast episodes from this week and of course check out the news posts I put together. Enjoy! In Theaters Now: Inferno -  http://whysoblu.com/inferno- upon-hanks-movie-review/ (Hanks is hair is less silly, but the movie still is) Moonlight -  http://whysoblu.com/moonligh t-movie-review/ (One of the year's bests) Here's The Archive Of Every Review Throughout The Year(s) -  http://www.thecodeiszeek.com /p/review-archive.html

Tom Cruise is back as Jack Reacher this weekend and we'll have to see how audiences respond to another round with his other franchise. Speaking of franchises, Ouija: Origin of Evil is a complete 360 in terms of quality with regard to the first film. On the indie front, Moonlight  is in limited release this weekend and it's one of the year's best films. Plenty of other posts too in regard to new home releases. A few news articles are here too, along with some podcast posts that are plenty enjoyable. Dig in! How About That Trailer? - Logan

Image
Following the recent reveal of a title and poster for the final film to feature Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, we now have the first trailer for the film Logan (and a red-band version that I've added at the bottom). It promises what we should honestly be wanting from these X-Men  movies, which is something that looks completely different from other X-Men movies. Rather than another film that appears to sell giant stakes and impossible odds, this looks like a dark western that just happens to involve a few mutants.

Brief Thoughts: Shin Godzilla (aka Godzilla Resurgence)

Image
I really enjoy putting my reviews together.  I honestly wish I could delve deeper into certain movies, but alas, I get incredibly busy and can sometimes only deal with movies to a briefer extent than I would prefer.  This is why I write these occasional "Brief Thoughts" posts on movies I have seen, as I want to at least offer some of my own perspective on them.  They may not be as polished, but I can at least get my opinions out there. The following "Brief Thoughts" focuses on the 29th Toho produced Godzilla film - Shin Godzilla . Shin Godzilla: 4 out of 5 I am a Godzilla fan. The 2014 Godzilla from Rogue One director Gareth Edwards opened my eyes up to just how big of a Godzilla  fan I was, as I realized just how much knowledge about the 60+ year franchise I held. Well, following that film (which I still very much enjoy), we now have Shin Godzilla , the latest incarnation from the original studio, Toho, which serves as a new reboot (the third for the

Aaron and Abe are joined by Maxwell Haddad and Brandon Peters for this round, as some defining qualities and general opinions for this more recent sub-genre are made, followed by a number of picks from each participant, which they have chosen to put a spotlight on. This one was surprisingly long, but there is plenty of knowledge and fun to take in here, so enjoy! Weekly Recap: The Accountant & More!

Image
The Accountant arrives this weekend in an attempt to have Ben Affleck live out the government agent dreams that Will Hunting could have achieved if things took a different turn. That's the only major release I managed to see this week (though I am defintely going to see Shin Godzilla  with my girlfriend and my father on Saturday). Plenty of new releases on home video to check out though. And be sure to take in the news posts and the really great podcasts we put up this week. Lots to enjoy there for sure. In Theaters Now: The Accountant -  http://whysoblu.com/many-variables-complicate-accountant-movie-review/ (Too much story, but enjoyable) The Birth of a Nation -  http://whysoblu.com/parkers- birth-nation-strikes-back-hist ory-movie-review/ (Not flawless, but great ambition) Here's The Archive Of Every Review Throughout The Year(s) -  http://www.thecodeiszeek.com /p/review-archive.html

How About That Trailer? - Get Out, Sleepless, Jackie, Patriot's Day

Image
It seems like I got hit by a bunch of new trailers all at the same time and while I would love to make separate posts, combining thoughts into one post seems like the most time efficient way to handle it all. That said, do take a look at what each new trailer for  Get Out, Sleepless, Jackie, and Patriot's Day has to offer. There's a lot of intriguing stuff here and some of these films may certainly deliver a lot to both be entertained (in varying degrees) by and talk about.
