Out Now Commentary - The Living Daylights (1987)

Some may recall the James Bond commentaries provided by Out Now with Aaron and Abe leading up to the release of Skyfall. Well, the guys are back with their first commentary for a Timothy Dalton Bond film. Aaron is joined by Scott Mendelson, Brandon Peters and Randy Shaffer to talk The Living Daylights and plenty of other random stuff. It is a fun and info-packed commentary episode that certainly uses the film as a launching pad for many other kinds of conversations.

Important Note:  This commentary may feature both juvenile uses of language and jokes that may be considered un-PC.  We of course are just trying to have a fun time…

Weekly Recap: Sicario, Everest, The Green Inferno & More!

This week gives us the wide release of two movies worth checking out. Sicario, in particular is a solid gritty action thriller, with plenty of reasons to check it out. Everest is decent enough as well. Eli Roth's long-delayed The Green Inferno is finally in theaters as well and certainly works for gore fans. I didn't get a chance to see either The Intern or Hotel Transylvania 2, though I've heard good things from people I trust. All that in mind, I have plenty of links for you to check out and enjoy.

In Theaters This Week:

(A killer crime drama/action thriller worth seeing for sure)

(Straightforward, but well-made, now in wide release)

(Great for gory horror fans)

‘Sicario’ Successfully Rides The Border Of Intense And Mesmerizing

Sicario: 4 ½ out of 5

After watching Sicario, I definitely know I am in the Denis Villenueve club and need to seek out his past films, including the Oscar-nominated Incendies as soon as I can. After enjoying the look of Prisoners and being truly wowed by Enemy, Villeneuve has done enough to have me excited for whatever he may up to. Sicario is a terrific gritty crime film that fits right with what I would hope he can accomplish and if a Blade Runner sequel is truly what he may have next, then I can at least hope for the best from a stylistic standpoint.

Weekly Recap: Black Mass, Everest, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials & More!

This week brings us a variety of new releases (I'll be seeing Sicario soon), signaling the arrival of Oscar season in a way, but more importantly provides reason to go back to the theater. That in mind, Everest opens in IMAX exclusively this weekend and is decent enough for a biographical drama. Black Mass, on the other hand is disappointingly limited in scope. Then you have a new Maze Runner film and it is fairly enjoyable. Beyond that, I have a number of fun links presented and a look at the awesome movies released on Blu-ray this week, not to mention the podcast, of course. Enjoy.

In Theaters This Week:

(Depp and the cast is great in a generic gangster movie)

(Straightforward, but well-made)

(Exciting, with familiar YA novel storyline)

Depp Goes Gangster For ‘Black Mass‘ (Film Review)

Black Mass: 2 ½ out of 5

Whether or not you have tired of Johnny Depp’s work as a zany showman fitted with accents and costumes, the guy certainly puts in the work. A film like Black Mass is really no different, other than the fact that the zaniness has been taken down a dark path and the funny costumes now come in the form of distracting contacts and a thick Boston accent. Sadly, there really isn’t much more to the movie as a whole, which is a shame given the terrific supporting cast and a story that seems interesting on paper.

Weekly Recap: The Visit, The Biggest Films Of The Summer & More!

Next week is packed with new releases, but this week has one big one of note for film fans. M. Night Shyamalan is back with a new film and it's the first time in a while that he's actually made something worthwhile. The Visit is certainly worth a look if you want to see a decent thriller with a lot of comedy to go with it. Other than that, this is another week to get caught up on the summer fun you may have missed out on. There are also plenty of other fun links I have provided, as usual. Look for my piece on superior remakes or even the evolving looks of Batman. Regardless, enjoy and have a good weekend!

In Theaters This Week:

(A solid thriller/comedy from none other than M. Night Shyamalan)

Weekly Recap: The Transporter Refueled, Dope Redux & More!

This week is Labor Day weekend, which means we get what is generally a forgettable action movie or something with Jason Statham or Danny Trejo or sometimes both. In this cast, it is a Transporter movie that doesn't have Jason Statham and it's a real miss. Fortunately, Dope has been released in theaters again, so you can catch up on that film if you haven't seen it already. Additionally, Mad Max: Fury Road is now out on Blu-ray, so there's a film to enjoy at home if you can this weekend. I have put up plenty of other fun links too, so be sure to check those out.

Out Now Interview: Liz Manashil - Writer/Director Of Bread And Butter
