Out Now Commentary: Johnny Mnemonic (1995)

Image
Out Now with Aaron and Abe has an all new commentary for Johnny Mnemonic , the other Keanu Reeves sci-fi flick that involves him jacking his mind into a computer. Aaron and Abe are joined by Brandon Peters and Peter Paras to jack into the feature film, which is high on praise for Dolph Lundgren and Ice-T and more than willing to dissect the efforts of both Reeves and Henry Rollins. Get a load of what they have to say in this commentary track packed with fun and information. Important Note:   This commentary may feature both juvenile uses of language and jokes that may be considered un-PC.  We of course are just trying to have a fun time… So now, if you’ve got an hour to kill…

Weekly Recap: We Are Your Friends And More!

Image
The summer has pretty much come to a close and if you haven't already seen the big and worthwhile blockbusters still in theaters, this is the time to do it, as the new releases are not much to look at. Zac Efron stars in We Are Your Friends , but the DJ drama is hardly worth your time. I didn't have a chance to catch up on No Escape , but by all accounts, it doesn't seem like I missed much. There are films like Mistress America  and Grandma that I do really want to catch, but be sure to check the arthouse theaters in general. Regardless, enjoy this week's recap and the various links I've provided. In Theaters This Week: We Are Your Friends -  http://www.ranthollywood.com/2015/08/26/we-are-your-friends-is-the-dj-movie-that-misses-the-beat/ (The Zac Efron DJ movie you don't need to see) Here's The Archive Of Every Review Throughout The Year(s) -  http://www.thecodeiszeek. com/p/review-archive.html

Weekly Recap: American Ultra, Hitman: Agent 47 & More!

Image
Okay, so this week is not the greatest as far as new releases go. We are at the end of summer and August is basically tossing up what is left. That said, I had some fun with American Ultra , enough to recommend it for those looking for something weird and different. Hitman: Agent 47 is a different story, as it is just awful. Sinister 2 also comes out this week, but I didn't even bother. With that said, please enjoy all the fun and informative articles I also put together, as that's where a lot of the real fun lies. In Theaters This Week: American Ultra -  http://www.ranthollywood.com/2015/08/18/american-ultra-is-high-on-fun/ (It's a weird one, but I had fun) Hitman: Agent 47 -  http://www.thecodeiszeek.com/2015/08/brief-thoughts-hitman-agent-47-movie.html (Another bad video game movie) Here's The Archive Of Every Review Throughout The Year(s) -  http://www.thecodeiszeek. com/p/review-archive.html

Brief Thoughts: Hitman: Agent 47 (Movie Review)

Image
I really enjoy putting my reviews together.  I honestly wish I could delve deeper into certain movies, but alas, I get incredibly busy and can sometimes only deal with movies to a briefer extent than I would prefer.  This is why I write these occasional "Brief Thoughts" posts on movies I have seen, as I want to at least offer some of my own perspective on them.  They may not be as polished, but I can at least get my opinions out there. This Brief Thoughts post will be focused on Hitman: Agent 47, the second attempt to make this video game movie work.

Weekly Recap: Straight Outta Compton, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. & More!

Image
We are basically at the end of big summer movies this weekend, but if we are, we have one really solid film to end it in a fine manner. Straight Outta Compton is a killer biopic about N.W.A. that is definitely  worth your time. The Man from U.N.C.L.E.  may not be Guy Ritchie's best, but it is stylish fun for a one time watch as well. Really, there is so much that is still out in theaters that it would be easy to miss some of the good, smaller stuff, but it is out there (see The End of the Tour ). Besides the review links I have posted, please be happy to enjoy all the other articles I put together, as there is some very cool stuff I got a chance to work on. Most of all though, enjoy the weekend, especially if you hit the movie theaters.

‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’ Is Stylish, Yet Unmemorable (Film Review)

Image
The Man From U.N.C.L.E. : 3 out of 5 In the world of big screen TV reboots, it is nice to see The Man From U.N.C.L.E. make a valiant effort to hold on to what worked originally. I won’t pretend to be a pro, when it comes to remembering the series (I saw some reruns when I was younger), but the film tries hard to hold onto its spirit. It is an attempt that has led to one of the more stylish films of the summer. I only wish it had more going on to allow the film anything that would lead to a reason to not just write it off as an entertaining distraction.

Out Now with Aaron and Abe Episode 203: Fantastic Four

Image
This week’s episode of Out Now with Aaron and Abe discusses last weekend’s doom. Aaron is joined by Mark Hobin and Alan Aguilera to discuss Fantastic Four.   Among topics covered, we have a fun round of Know Everybody ( 4:00 ), some Out Now Quickies™ ( 9:39 ), Trailer talk for Deadpool ( 16:35 ) , the main review ( 26:27 ), Out Now Feedback ( 57:10 ), and Games ( 67:35 ). We then wrap things up ( 73:00 ) and end it all with some bloopers ( 80:25 ), following this week’s close out song.  So now, if you’ve got an hour or so to kill… You can also find links to the episode at AudioBoom .  Subscribe via iTunes HERE

Weekly Recap: Fantastic Four, Ricki And The Flash, The Gift & More!

Image
This week sees the release of the much debated Fantastic Four . I did my best to stay on the optimistic side, but the film was unfortunately not the underdog that would triumph. Moving on though, there were some other solid efforts. Two thrillers, Cop Car  and The Gift  are easily worth seeing. The Gift, in particular, is the best release of the week and full of great stuff. Also opening is Ricki And The Flash , which is the best Meryl Streep film I've seen in a while. As far as everything else, I've collected a lot of good stuff from this week, so enjoy! In Theaters This Week: Fantastic Four -  http://www.thecodeiszeek.com/2015/08/fantastic-four-experiment-gone-wrong.html (I was rooting for this one, but alas...) Ricki and the Flash -  http://www.ranthollywood.com/2015/08/05/meryl-streep-truly-rocks-out-in-ricki-and-the-flash/ (Meryl Streep is obviously good in this solid character drama) The Gift -  http://www.ranthollywood.com/2015/08/07/the-gift-is-da

‘Fantastic Four’: An Experiment Gone Wrong (Movie Review)

Image
Fantastic Four: 2 out of 5 The thing to keep in mind about Fantastic Four is that I am judging the movie as a whole. This is the movie that the studio decided was best for theatrical release, no matter what transpired before its release and that is what I must critique. It is irritating to have to start this way, but few movies are treated with such disdain before they ever arrive in theaters. At the end of the day, Fantastic Four is just a movie. It is not one that I have any personal investment in, beyond wanting to see a good film, so while it is ultimately a bad movie, it is not the end of the world and certainly not on par with the world-ending approach Doctor Doom tries for.
