Out Now Commentary: Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003)

Image
Out Now with Aaron and Abe has an underrated film to talk about here for this month’s commentary. With a new Terminator on the way, Aaron is joined by Scott Mendelson, Brandon Peters, and Randy Shaffer to discuss Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and why should be looked at more positively than it seems to be. Get a load of what they have to say in this commentary track packed with fun and information. Important Note:   This commentary may feature both juvenile uses of language and jokes that may be considered un-PC.   We of course are just trying to have a fun time… So now, if you’ve got an hour to kill… listen to ‘Out Now Commentary: Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003)’ on audioBoom

Weekly Recap: Ted 2, Max & More!

Image
This week seems like a good way to stall before we learn whether or not Terminator Sega Genisys is really worth our time. Ted 2  is unfortunately a big disappointment and Max is pretty nonsensical, which is a shame, as far as getting fun, new kid adventure movies go. Still, I have plenty more to offer this week along with the reviews. 2 podcasts and a bunch of fun links. Enjoy. In Theaters This Week: Ted 2 -  http://www.ranthollywood.com/2015/06/24/ted-2-is-another-disappointing-comedy-sequel/ (A disappointing comedy sequel) Max -  http://www.ranthollywood.com/2015/06/25/even-mans-best-friend-couldnt-save-max/ (A bad dog movie) DOPE -  http://www.ranthollywood. com/2015/06/17/dope-is-a-geek- revolution-for-boys-in-the- hood/ (An inspired coming-of-age story with a pulse) Here's The Archive Of Every Review Throughout The Year(s) -  http://www.thecodeiszeek. com/p/review-archive.html

Out Now Nights 10: DOPE Discussion

Image
Out Now Nights is an exclusive bonus episode of Out Now with Aaron and Abe that we record off hours because we wanted to talk about something! For this bonus Nights episode, Aaron and Abe are joined by Peter Paras to talk about the film DOPE. This conversation goes a bit into spoiler territory, but this is really a conversation discussing the merits of and reviewing a little film like this. Weekly Recap: Inside Out, DOPE & More!

Image
Seems like a big this week and maybe it is. We have a new Pixar film, Inside Out, which is very good. The Sundance Hit DOPE finally hits theaters and it deserves a lot of attention as well. And of course you still have Jurassic World destroying the box office. That shouldn't stop you from seeing the little things like Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, which expands this weekend as well. I also have all the big Blu-ray releases posted here, not to mention a ton of fun links I've put together, which recaps everything not E3 related . Enjoy (and be sure to check out this week's fun podcast)! In Theaters This Week: Inside Out -  http://www.ranthollywood.com/2015/06/16/pixar-delivers-on-all-the-emotions-with-inside-out/ (Pixar is back with a really great film) DOPE -  http://www.ranthollywood.com/2015/06/17/dope-is-a-geek-revolution-for-boys-in-the-hood/ (An inspired coming-of-age story with a pulse) About Elly -  http://www.thecodeiszeek.com/2015/06/brief-th

Brief Thoughts: About Elly

Image
I really enjoy putting my reviews together.  I honestly wish I could delve deeper into certain movies, but alas, I get incredibly busy and can sometimes only deal with movies to a briefer extent than I would prefer.  This is why I write these occasional "Brief Thoughts" posts on movies I have seen, as I want to at least offer some of my own perspective on them.  They may not be as polished, but I can at least get my opinions out there. This Brief Thought is focused on About Elly, the 2009 Iranian from director Asghar Farhadi. About Elly: 4 out of 5 Sepideh: Now, what does he think about Elly? It is interesting to go back in time with a director I have only recently found myself so intrigued by in recent years. Academy Award winner Asghar Farhadi had made four other films prior to  A Separation  and  The Past. About Elly  is one that somehow got lost in the shuffle as far as getting an American release. Regardless, the film has now arrived and continues

New To Blu (6/16): Chappie, Run All Night, Wild Tales & More

Image
Here's a look at what is out this week on Blu-ray, accompanied by my reviews for each: Chappie - A disappointment from Neill Blomkamp. http://www.thecodeiszeek.com/2015/03/chappie-is-reject-movie-review.html Run All Night - Despite a neat presentation, it's another forgettable Liam Neeson action flick. http://www.ranthollywood.com/2015/03/12/film-review-run-all-night-is-average-as-far-as-todays-standard-for-liam-neeson-films-go/ Wild Tales - One of the 2014 Oscar nominees for Best Foreign Language Film and it is a great, dark comedy. http://whysoblu.com/wild-tales-blu-ray-review/ Unfinished Business - Currently tied for being one of the worst films of the year. http://www.thecodeiszeek.com/2015/03/unfinished-business-had-lots-of.html

Weekly Recap: Jurassic World, Me And Early And The Dying Girl & More!

Image
This week sees the release of Jurassic World , which is coming out exactly 22 years after the original. It is fun enough, even with some obvious flaws. It is the kind of film that delivers on what you'd expect from typical blockbuster fare, but it has dinosaurs! That said, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl is a solid indie worth seeking out, as is the Brian Wilson biopic Love & Mercy . Along with reviews for that, I have a lot of cool posts that range from cool trailers to some fun trivia to the best of the legendary Christopher Lee. And be sure to check out this week's Out Now podcast, as I spent lot of time editing it together. In Theaters This Week: Jurassic World -  http://www.ranthollywood.com/2015/06/10/jurassic-world-brings-back-the-fun-to-be-had-with-dinosaurs/ (It has some issues, but it's fun) Me and Earl and the Dying Girl -  http://www.ranthollywood.com/2015/06/09/me-and-earl-and-the-dying-girl-is-brings-life-back-to-high-school-movies/ (A solid in

Weekly Recap: Spy, Entourage, Insidious Chapter 3 and More!

Image
This week has three entertaining releases. Spy is easily the winner, which is a surprise, given my general distaste for Melissa McCarthy. What can I say, I was finally able to enjoy a movie with her in the lead role. That said, you get what you expect with Entourage and Insidious , though they are fun enough for fans. Lots of new Blu-ray releases this week, which I have reviews for as well. And of course you get some fun articles I have written up, along with a pair of podcasts. Enjoy! In Theaters This Week: Spy -  http://www.ranthollywood.com/2015/06/03/spy-delivers-goofy-espionage-action-and-big-laughs/ (Great cast and big laughs) Entourage -  http://www.ranthollywood.com/2015/06/02/entourage-is-a-lightweight-season-crammed-into-one-movie/ (If you know the show, you know what you're getting) Insidious: Chapter 3 -  http://www.thecodeiszeek.com/2015/06/insidious-back-to-further-part-iii.html (Surprisingly solid for horror fans)

‘Insidious’: Back To The Further Part III (Movie Review)

Image
Insidious: Chapter 3 : 2 ½ out of 5 I guess it would be fair to call Insidious: Chapter 3 a summer surprise. The first film from 2010 was a sleeper hit, which found the team behind Saw (director James Wan and co-writer Leigh Whannell) joining forces with the guys behind Paranormal Activity (director Oren Peli and producer Jason Blum). The second film from 2013 was a disaster. While everyone returned, it felt more like an obligation that had some clever ideas but not the heart of Wan, who was busy raking in acclaim for The Conjuring , released a few months prior. By all accounts, Chapter 3 should have been terrible. To my surprise, while the original is still much better, minor issues do not hold this chapter of Insidious too far back from being effective enough for what it is.
